We previously talked about transforming our professions to make them more sustainable and circular (https://www.serviplast-industrie.be/en/transforming-our-professions-to-make-the-world-more-sustainable/)
But isn’t the priority to face the climate emergency to start by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions?
Since 2018, we have worked on the energy efficiency of our infrastructure (lighting, heating) and our equipment (injection molding presses, cooling units, compressors…).
We then installed a source of renewable energy production by placing solar panels. This was an obvious first step in our 2030 energy mix strategy aimed at moving towards energy autonomy.
But we were missing an overall view, a global framework that allowed us to prioritize our actions and objectively measure their impact. And most importantly, to take into account the emissions from our entire supply and distribution chains.
This global framework could be provided by the carbon assessment. We therefore embarked on this process, choosing the methodology of the GHG Protocol.
In 2021, our balance was 2406 tCO2. It was the first time we measured it, so some data were still approximate.
In 2022 and 2023, we improved data collection and processing to have a reliable balance: 2052 tCO2 in 2022 and 1885 tCO2 in 2023.
A decrease of 8% is encouraging!
Thanks to this data, we can set our goals and the actions to achieve them.
